Simcoe County councillors voted Tuesday to allow residents the option to exchange their new large waste bins for smaller ones.
The county has delivered the large carts to thousands of households, and will begin using them for waste and recycling collection starting next week.
But some residents say they don’t have room for the large bins and had been pressuring their councillors to come up with something smaller.
At a special meeting Tuesday, county council was told the switch to smaller carts could cost several million dollars, because staff will have to to be hired to keep track of the exchanges.
The smaller bins won’t be available until February.
