Nearly 400 thousand Ontario residents will spend Sunday night in the dark, as Hydro One mobilizes to deal with one of the worst storms in recent memory.
Freezing rain began across central Ontario Saturday morning and by afternoon trees and branches were raining down on power lines and roadways.
Hydro One says its crews are out in full force, augmented by outside contractors, and more than a quarter of a million customers have been restored.
However, tree limbs and branches continue to fall.
A statement issued Sunday afternoon indicated it will take several days to restore all customers.
The worst hit areas appear to be around Orillia and Muskoka.
Hydro One says it prioritizes restoration in a way that brings power back to the greatest number of customers in the shortest period of time.
Crews need to repair and rebuild main lines along with other key pieces of electricity infrastructure before repairs can be made to power lines that serve smaller numbers of customers.

Hydro One warns area residents to prepare for several days without power.
